Introduction to Horse Riding in Myanmar

(text compiled by Paul Bates, Harrison Institute)

Horse riding

In Myanmar, horse riding is a relatively new activity for tourists. Currently there are only a few centres and a very limited number of companies offering riding opportunities. However, interest is growing and new stables are being developed, especially in Shan State.

Horse riding can be enjoyed as part of an organised tour but also by independent travellers who wish to go for a short hack – anything from an hour or two to half a day or more.

There are four main centres for horse riding – Shan State (including Kalaw, Inle Lake area, and Pindaya), Bagan, Mandalay and Yangon.

If you have experience of horse riding in Myanmar, we would welcome feedback so that we can provide more comprehensive information on this activity.
